How far could she go?
Florentina “Flo” Spindler came to triathlon with a question: how competitive could she become?
She had no professional sporting background. A career change from finance created space to train. Together with Precision Coaching’s Will Usher, she set her sights on IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship qualification. They had five months.
A starting point. Then steady progress.
February’s assessments gave the project something concrete to work from. Her recorded swim threshold was 2:25 per 100 metres, bike threshold power was 201 watts and run threshold pace was 5:40 per kilometre.
By the final tests before Luxembourg, the difference was substantial.
| Discipline | February baseline | Before Luxembourg |
|---|---|---|
| Swim threshold | 2:25/100m | 1:37/100m |
| Bike threshold power | 201 W | 231 W |
| Run threshold pace | 5:40/km | 4:28/km |
Baseline assessments: swim, 20 February; bike, 21 February; run, 25 February 2026. Final pre-race assessments: swim, 12 June; bike, 16 June; run, 17 May. These are training thresholds, not race splits.
The improvements developed across successive tests. Bike threshold power reached 208 watts in April, 221 in May and 231 in June. Swimming progressed through 2:06, 1:56 and 1:40 per 100 metres before reaching 1:37.
Fitness was only part of the preparation.
Her calendar combined threshold work with easy sessions, longer endurance training and runs off the bike. June brought two race rehearsals, giving the preparation a practical test before Luxembourg.
Will focused on consistency, recovery and accurate session execution. Difficult runs during hot rehearsals informed a conservative opening run strategy. Flo was building both fitness and a plan she could trust.
Race day changed. The goal stayed.
An algal bloom forced cancellation of Luxembourg’s swim. Flo adapted, controlled her early effort and finished the run strongly. She secured World Championship qualification, later describing how she borrowed Will’s calmness when it mattered.

Flo’s journey shows what an athlete and coach can build together: measurable progress, lessons from difficult sessions and clear decisions under race pressure.
