Pace? HR? Power? Which One to Use?
Understanding heart rate, pace and power — and how to identify the primary metric for your TriDot or RunDot workout.

By Precision Coaching
Currently the most easily usable data metrics from our workouts are pace, heart rate and power. They can all be used in conjunction with one another but, for the purposes of building and delivering a structured workout, it’s useful to have a primary metric, particularly for interval-based workouts.
Of the three metrics, heart rate is special as it is the only one that measures what is going on with your engine as opposed to the outcome of that effort, measured in power or pace. It does though have its limitations. The main one being how its response to effort lags behind your activity. This is particularly true of interval-type work. Consequently you will find pace and power being used as a primary metric in those sorts of workouts.
In TriDot & RunDot, next to the title of the workout, you will find one of three symbols, a ❤️, a ⏱️ or a ⚡. This designates the primary metric as heart rate, pace or power respectively.
